------------------------------------------------------------

Dear subscribers,

Welcome to the very first issue of SmartPromotion. I am
delighted to have you here, and I hope you will put up with
us for a very long time! You won't regret it, I promise!

This newsletter will help you with your online promotion
activities, by offering you a selection of the best tips and
tools for better Internet exposure. Or in other words, reading
this newsletter will make you a "smart" promoter.

-Why else would I have obtained the smart-web-promotion
domain name, you think? :-)

In this first issue I have an informative guest article about
the importance of opt-in lists and newsletters. It's written
by Robert Dobyns. He is a well known marketer and also
the owner of FastDomainNames.com, and he explains
why it is so important to start up and maintain an E-zine
or newsletter of your own -if you didn't already knew... :-)

A the end of the article he offers you the opportunity to win a
FREE Palm-size or a refurbished Notebook PC, so please
read to the end!

Further in this edition is a cool piece of software that will
make your Internet searching easier, I will tell you how to
let your visitors FREELY advertise your web site to their
friends, I recommend a brand new affiliate program that
will let you earn good money, and of course we have some
great links to free web master tools.

How's that for a start up?

By the way, I have another update of my 'Web Site and E-zine
Promotion Made Easy" E-book ready. It will be available next
week at: http://www.smart-web-promotion.com

-Tip: Instead of always downloading the FREE demo, why
not try the DeLuxe version for once? :-)

Okay, enjoy this issue, and don't forget to tell your friends
about this publication! They also deserve it :-)

Thanks!

Dirk Dupon

PS: It would be wise to save every issue of this newsletter
to your hard disk. If you do, you'll always have the best tips
and promotion tools at hand! And it doesn't take up much
of your hard disk space to save a simple text file.

------------------------------------------------------------

Creating an E-book has never been easier. If you make one
and distribute it freely on the Net, it will reach so many new
visitors that would otherwise never had known you existed.

An E-book can promote your web site or business, and let
you be seen by thousands of eyeballs all over the world.

Read here how you can create an E-book:

------------------------------------------------------------
2. Smart Promotion Tip
------------------------------------------------------------

The easiest way to get FREE traffic to your web site or
newsletter is to submit your publication for FREE to an
announcement mailing list.

These kind of mailing lists let publishers and web masters
advertise their web site or E-zine for free. Announcement list
owners get a free ad in return every time a message is sent.
So it's a win-win situation for both sides.

Note: Keep it down to one posting a week, and you will reach
a wide audience instantly! Traffic is guaranteed, because all
other list readers are interested in the same goal; getting more
traffic to their publication. And you may make a few friends by
contacting other list submitters to set up an ad or link swap!

They Can Have My Listserver When They Pry It From
My Cold, Dead Fingers!

By Robert Dobyns

As an Internet marketer, few things excite me as much as the
possibilities that abound with the legitimate use of a listserver.
The Internet is D-E-A-D without email. While it's true that you
must have a domain to market on the Internet, to "showcase"
your wares, unless you are Yahoo and getting millions o
f unique visitors to your site, your web site and it's content
are far less important than maintaining a quality "opt-in"
mailing list.

Take Yahoo for instance.....they have the continual flow of
traffic that everyone dreams of, so to them it's just a "numbers
game". A certain percentage of people on the web will visit
them a certain percentage of the time and a certain percentage
of those will buy. I'm sure that their "bean counters" have it all
worked out to a very predictable scenario.

The average Internet market....... you and I ....... must have a
bit of a different approach, however, if we want to profit from
the ol' www.

Sure, we must be focused on generating traffic to our sites but
we won't wait to play the Internet leap frog game....we're
smarter than that. When they hit our sites, we don't want to see
them bounce in and then bounce out again, never to be heard from
again. ~Ribbit~ I kissed that frog when I first began my
Internet marketing career and it didn't taste too good!

NUMERO UNO.........GET THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS!

When they hit that site of yours, job # 1 should to get them to
freely and happily offer you their email address. This involves a
bit of give & take. You, the site owner, must offer to give them
something in exchange for the privilege of being able to take
their email address and add it to your list.

A piece of free software is nice, a free listing on your web
site's HOT, HOT PLACES TO GO" list, a free ad in your opt-in
publication. Something that is of obvious benefit to your visitor
and that is irresistible works best. For instance, those who
subscribe to my newsletter by sending a request to
mailto:jibb@jibb.com are entered in my monthly drawing for
a new free palm-size or a refurbished notebook computer.

This serves two purposes: it gets me new subscribers daily
AND it ensures that I have a VERY low unsubscribe rate.

Additionally, readers are given 72 hours to claim their prize or
else I pull a new name from the hat. Why? I'm interested in
catering to my readers, not to subscribers. There's a difference.

Readers are people who are interested in forming a mutually
beneficial relationship with me. Subscribers are just interested
in getting. I know some people that are "sweeps nuts". They
subscribe to every newsletter that they see that offers freebies
or drawings and immediately set up a filter for that newsletter
to go into the dump. Subscribers... not readers. Don't need
'em... don't want 'em.

I always try to look at the long term implications for I do. Some
of my readers have been with me over a year. I envision that some
of these will be with me 5 years from now; 10 years from now. I
can also tell you we have bonded through our frequent contact. I
know a good percentage of my readers by name and I recognize
hundreds of email addresses on sight because of the relationships
that we've formed.

Can a web site do that? Most can't although some have been able
to produce a great deal of interaction with newer software forms
and methods.

THE LISTSERVER IS KING AND THE INTERNET IS ITS DOMAIN!

In times past, a publisher would have to expend thousands and
thousands of dollars on equipment and advertising to start a
newsletter or magazine.

Now with the advent of the Internet and the listserver, for a few
bucks, anyone with a voice and a vision can become an instant
publisher! Granted, sometimes the voice is harsh or the vision
blurred, but then the Internet merely reflects that real world in
which we live, doesn't it.

To you, the ambitious marketer, it is a gift from above! Gutenburg
is in heaven and looking at the technology that we have, namely
the listserver, and is day dreaming about all that he could have
accomplished if he'd have had this baby in his day!

To be able to wade out into an endless pool of prospects, cast
your net, and capture thousands and thousands of opt-in email
addresses is the marketers dream! And one that can become a
reality for YOU.

Here's a few tips:

1) Focus on your niche -- Ask yourself, "Who am I trying to
reach?" If the answer is purple-haired Lilliputians, then filling
your list with yellow-toothed folk from Luggnagg won't do you
much good.

2) Have a theme -- While I take advertisements from various
sources for my publication, MEGA MONEY, my general theme is
business opportunities and these types of articles and ads appeal
to my readership more than, let's say, health-care products.

3) Publish on a schedule -- VERY IMPORTANT! Part of your
contractual relationship with your readership is that you tell
them when you will have your little tete-a-tetes. I know one
publisher who publishes "periodically" according to his own
statement in his newsletter. With every issue he loses about
10% of his readership to unsubscribes and almost always
gets at least one "spam" complaint, though the person voluntarily
subscribed! They simply forgot who he was!

4) Include quality content -- Every issue that you send out does
not have to be filled with your own personally written content.
Content is quite abundant on the net. A simple query at any
search engine for "publishers" will provide you with a thousand
sources for content on the subject of your choice. Additionally,
mailto:jibb@jibb.com with "Articles Please" in the subject and I
will be happy to add you to my list of publishers who have asked
to receive my latest.

Some may chuckle when they see the title of this article, but I
am serious as can be. I would rather have ONE listserver than
20 web sites. I would rather have ONE opt-in subscriber than
1,000 anonymous hits to a web site. I would rather cultivate
ONE relationship on the Internet than to have hundreds who
are my anonymous benefactors. Relationships last a lifetime.

LET YOUR VISITORS PROMOTE YOUR SITE FOR FREE!

You know those recommendation services that let you tell a
friend to visit a particular web site like "Recommend-It", or
"Let 'em Know".

But do you know that adding a tell-a-friend-tool to your web
page can be done easily by yourself? And you don't have to
be a HTML-expert to do it!

The following HTML-code creates a link that will pop up an
email window with a blank "To" field and a subject line and
the body text that you have composed.

(Simply replace the XXX's in the code with the copy you want
to use for the E-mail's subject line and body. The sender will
only have to fill in the recipient's email address.)

Here's the code:

<a href="mailto:?&subject=XXX&body=XXXXXXXX"><b>Tell a
Friend About This Web Site</b></A>

To achieve maximum effect, put the link on a prominent place,
and use a graphic instead of the plain text?

Voilą, there you have your own recommendation service!

6. Recommended Affiliate Program
------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to make money from your web site or E-zine, but
don't have your own product, you can join an affiliate program
and sell (or promote) products for other companies.

This can be books, CD's, software, but also holidays, credit
cards, flowers, furniture, anything you can think of. Every time
you make a sale from your special affiliate link, you will get a
commission.

In this section I will give attention to 1 special affiliate program
that will earn you bucks, and this months program is a brand
new book (with a terrific 2 tier pay out program) called:

*** "Nothing But 'Net" ***

In "Nothing But 'Net", author Michael W. Campbell tells you
step by step how a virtual store can generate $750,000.00
in internet revenue, in less than a year, and without paying
for advertising. He also shows you how to create top scoring
search engine pages and writes about his best marketing
secrets!

The book price is only 39$, so it should sell like candy, and
your associate commission is 25% for all direct sales. You
will also earn 10% on sales made by your affiliates!

The famous Net marketer Declan Dunn helps the author
with marketing and promoting, so I strongly advise you to
become a reseller today, because this new book is going
to be HOT! Remember that information is the best selling
product on the Net!

promoting it like crazy. You have nothing to loose, because
