By Derrick VanDyke Is getting your site listed with all the major search engines worth the effort? Absolutely! Where else can you get free, consistent exposure for your site where over 80% of the world population is searching? The latest GVU survey shows that 84.8% of Internet surfers find products and services through search engines. What they didn't show is that 95% of those surfers use only handful of the numerous search engines available to find and purchase products and services. The question is: are they finding you? Most people don't look past the first 20 search results. In fact 67% say that they usually look at the first 10 results from a search engine and then try to narrow their focus by using more keywords or boolean terms. This information is a valuable learning tool and an opportunity for you to maximize your traffic from search engines. Basically, if you want to be found, you need to be in the top 20 results. But, that doesn't mean you need to be in that position for a single keyword or the most popular keywords. You will generate more traffic by being found in the top 20 results for a multi-keyword search than being number 2,456,498 for a single keyword search. When people narrow the focus of their search, they try different keyword combinations to get more specific results. There are hundreds of keyword combinations that people will use to find your site. What you need to do is make a list of all the possible search terms (keyword combinations) that people might use to find your site and then integrate them into your Web pages. The problem is that it's impossible to create one page (or even 10 pages) that will get ranked highly all these search terms. It's also difficult to add enough keywords to a page to make it relevant to search engines and still make sense to your visitors. The solution: Doorway Pages! Doorway pages are specifically designed to rank highly on search engines for and then redirect visitors to the main page of your site. Each page is optimized for a particular search term. So, you will need to create a single page for each search term on you list. Once you submit all these pages, your chances of being found will increase 10 fold or more!
