By Dirk Dupon If you think about promoting your publication, be it a web site, or a newsletter, there are a few things that you MUST stick to. If you don't, you'll get zero results with your promotion campaign, and you'll come home with an empty wallet and all kinds of stuff you don't really need... but that looked so attractive. Just like when you go shopping to the super market with a hungry stomach and no grocery list :-) I'll name some of the most important steps you should take up here: 1) First of all, if you own a newsletter, swap ads with other newsletters that are related to your subject. (Every serious online publisher who is concerned about his business or web site traffic should have his own follow up tool, and a newsletter is the best one!) Try to find one that has a comparable subscriber base if you can and promise in your ad to give a FREE gift to all the new subscribers. Let the gift be a screen saver, or an E-book (I can create one for you for FREE, with your personal ad in it. Click here: http://www.smart-web-promotion.com/personalcopy.htm Send the new subscribers to a special web page where they must download the gift, and add some extra promotion about your service or product to that page. You will be punished if you do! 2) Set up a reciprocal link page on your web site, and trade links with sites that are of similar interest with yours. Ask the link swappers to put a button/banner or text link on their web site, and do the same for them. Make it easy for them. Look how it did it at: http://www.smart-web-promotion.com/links.htm Or write the web master of a site with similar interest a nice letter and ask him for a reciprocal link. Tell him that you both may lose a few visitors by doing this (but a visitor will leave anyway -no surfer stays on 1 web site forever!), but that you will both benefit from your link on the other web site! See, this is a true win win situation! Nobody loses! 3) When you submit your site or newsletter to the major Search Engines, make sure to do it manually!!! Place the "Title" tag before the "Name" and "Keywords" tag, or your web page will be neglected by the search engines! TIP: Front Page 98 and 2000 automatically place the "Title" tag behind the other tags when it saves a document, so before you save your HTML in FP98, copy it, paste it in a plain text editor like Notepad, and only save it from there! This is very important! 5) Subscribe to a few mailing lists that cover your topic, and post questions or answer other list member questions, and be sure to include your well designed signature file along with every post. 6) Write a positive note to another ezine editor or web master and thell them how much you liked their publication, and what benefits you got from them. Every publisher likes that, and maybe they'll include your comment in their pub. If they do, ask them if they will place your sexy sig file beneath it :-) 7) Spend some time surfing the web, visit the most important competitors, and sign all the guest books that are of interest to you. Leave a positive word, or a nice compliment, of course with your catchy sig file attached to it! 6) A good way to collect new newsletter subscribers is to announce your E-zine in the announcement services. There are several with searchable catalogues. They get lots of visitors and are a sure way to quickly find new subscribers. For FREE!!! TIP: Let the contest be date limited, that way they'll hurry up :-) If you follow these easy tips they will bring you a lot of traffic in a very short time. Remember, it's not enough to make a web site and wait for traffic! You must get to your audience first, before they will get to you.
